Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is a partnership with the province of Alberta. We offer programs and services that contribute to the well-being of our residents, their families, and communities. 

Community Compass Program – ties together hundreds of independent social services and programs into a coordinated system to streamline access and help residents navigate community support across the region. The program is a partnership with the Community Foundation of Northern Alberta and the City of Grande Prairie.

Community School Liaison Program – provides information and support to families and students who are having trouble at home or at school.

Early Childhood Development – parent and tot programs for caregivers and children 0 - 6 and playschool programs for three and four year olds.

Home Support Program – provides in-home support to families and individuals experiencing disruptions to their normal family routine.

Grant Program – FCSS supports local preventive social services through direct programming and the provision of financial assistance through the grant program.

Keep In Touch Program – offers emotional support to seniors to decrease isolation and loneliness helping to improve the condition of seniors' lives and helping them to flourish. 

Seniors Walk and Walk – Keep fit and stay connected. No charge to walk and enjoy a coffee on us.

Summer Youth Programming – Fun interactive day camps for youth ages 6 - 12 years old held in July and August.

Wellington Resource Centre – The Wellington Resource Centre (WRC) is a community facility in Clairmont offering a variety of supportive programs.

Hythe and District Food Bank – Located in the Hythe Community Centre, 10401 - 103 Avenue, residents can contact Hythe and District Food Bank to access service at 780-512-5093. The Food Bank is open Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

Transportation for COVID-19 Vaccinations

County of Grande Prairie residents, aged 65 years and older, who have a confirmed appointment for a COVID-19 vaccination and require transportation to their appointment can now access our COVID-19 vaccination transportation service.

This service is available Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

It will be provided by a County of Grande Prairie employee from the Family and Community Support Services department. All transportation will be in the employee’s personal vehicle and at no time will a client’s vehicle be used for transportation.

How do I qualify?

  • Live in the County of Grande Prairie
  • Are aged 65 or older
  • Have a confirmed appointment date and time for a COVID-19 vaccine
  • Have no access to alternate transportation
  • Client must be mobile and able to transfer in and out of the employees' vehicle independently
  • Client must be able to wear a mask at all times
  • Client must not be experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19
  • Client must be willing to complete a health check and allow the staff to conduct a temperature check before getting into the vehicle
  • Client must sign a waiver

Cost for Service

This service is provided free of charge to all County residents who meet the above qualifications. 

Booking Transportation

Please provide as much time as possible for booking and be advised that depending on demand and staff availability, we may not be available to accommodate all requests.

Special Project Funding

Limited funding is available to sponsor preventive social programs with the goal of improving resident's well being.
