Volunteers Are The Heart of Our Communities!

Building on the success of our 2023 program, where we highlighted volunteers during National Volunteer Week, we're thrilled to kick off the second year of our It Takes a Volunteer program!

In 2023, we received many heartfelt nominations, showcasing each nominee on our Volunteer Wall of Fame and presenting them with an appreciation package. We recognized the hard work of 10 individual volunteers, six volunteer groups, and three volunteer organizations. Thank you to everyone who participated, making our inaugural year a success!

As we look forward to another year of recognizing the incredible contributions of volunteers, we invite you to stay connected with the County's social media channels. In the coming weeks, we will be announcing the nominees for the 2024 It Takes a Volunteer program. Join us in celebrating the spirit of volunteerism that continues to make a positive impact in our community!

It Takes a Volunteer

Starting February 1, 2025 nominations can be made in the following categories:

  • Individual volunteers
  • A group or team of volunteers (three or more)
  • Organizations

Qualifying nominees will receive an It Takes a Volunteer appreciation package and will be highlighted during National Volunteer Week in April 2025.

Questions or need assistance making a nomination? Contact Family and Community Support Services at 780-532-9727 ext. 2400 or send us an email.

 Nomination Details
Volunteers must be nominated for a role that is unpaid. Volunteers must make a difference in the lives of County of Grande Prairie residents by volunteering for an organization in a role that is based in the County or that provides services to County residents.

Three or more volunteers from one organization must be nominated as a team.

While we recognize that some nominators would like to surprise volunteers with the recognition of their service, we highly recommend connecting with the volunteer, the team or group or the organization prior to submitting this form to get a full summary of their volunteer commitments. All nominees will be highlighted during National Volunteer Week and may be chosen to be featured in a short video about why volunteering is important to them.

The Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteers describe many personal benefits beyond giving back to their community, including the opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, and share their interests and hobbies with others. Volunteerism can enhance job applications and further careers, as well as positively impact mental health and wellbeing. There are many volunteer opportunities throughout the County to fit any schedule or interest. Learn more about opportunities to volunteer in your community by contacting FCSS at 780-532-9727 or send us an email.
