Verticillium Stripe (Wilt) is a common disease found predominately in Northern Europe. It was first detected in Canada in 2014.
What are the Risks?
The plant pathogen is a soil-borne, fungal disease that initially infects the root system at the seedling stage. The results of the infection are early death of the plant and reduced crop yield in canola.

Prevention
Although Verticillium Stripe is not currently prevalent in Canada, proper management practices are crucial to limit the spread of this disease:
- Leave 3 years between planting canola;
- Use proper sanitation practices;
- Monitor seed and fertilizer sources; and
- Fungicide and resistant varieties are NOT available for control.
